Sports Highlights - Eagles Games

We've been playing a few basketball games lately. Check out some highlights.

2012 Calendar (Current)

EXCELL ACADEMY EAGLES BASKETBALL

The 2012 charter school basketball league has started, and the Eagles have been off to an incredible start. We have three teams, who have all started the season by winning their first four games…undefeated!!!

The 5/6^th grade boys’ team has been dominating the competition, winning every game by at least 20 points!!! Our 12 student team has been improving and gaining confidence with each practice and game. Their hard work since November has been paying off. Every team member has contributed to our successful season. The most impressive fact about this team is that 11 of our 12 players are new to the team this year, and have really worked hard to understand and trust their teammates.

The Lady Eagles, made up of seven 6-8^th grade students, have continued to grow from last season’s undefeated record. Amazingly, our Excell girls’ team has never lost a game in the history of our team!!! This year’s team has some experienced players, as well as some newcomers who have fit in nicely. The Lady Eagles’ defense is their strength, giving up less than ten points in every game this season. With only seven players, the girls stay focused every game and give their best effort.

The 7/8^th grade boys’ team is on pace for their best season ever. The 12 student team has been lighting up the scoreboard, with at least 70 points in 3 of the 4 games this season. Their defensive quickness and offensive teamwork have been a big part of their success. At the halfway point in the season, the Eagles look to continue their efforts for the rest of the season. The majority of students on the team (10 out of 12) played for the Eagles last year, which is quite evident on the court.

Be sure to check out the Eagles in February and March. The majority of games will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30.

2012 Calendar (January Games)

The Eagles' Game Starter

The Eagles 5/6th grade basketball team had an opportunity to play in their first ever basketball tournament. They spent ALL day together as a team and had a great time. The Eagles played three games in one day...they won 2 and lost 1 and finished 3rd place in the whole tournament. After shaking off their jitters from the first game, they won the next two games 38-5 and 36-16. They represented Excell Academy very well (our team even received a compliment from one of the referees!!!) and we are so proud of the Eagles.

2011 Calendar (Soccer)

2011 EXCELL ACADEMY EAGLES SOCCER TEAM

The Excell Academy Eagles soccer team completed their second season last fall. Building off of last year’s inaugural season, the Eagles soared with success throughout the season. Our school joined a charter school soccer league, which provided many more games for our students. We finished with an excellent 4-1 record, with the only loss coming against a much older team. Our 17 student team worked very hard in practices and games, and demonstrated tremendous sportsmanship and teamwork on the soccer field. Our team was led by Danny (our only eighth grader on the team). He led by example by giving 100% at all times. He scored at least three goals in EVERY game this season. Wow!!! The Eagles had so many talented players ranging from 5^th to 8^th grade (as well as one 3^rd grader who kept up with the older players).

Some additional highlights included our 16-0 win in our first game of the season, which included seven different goal scorers for the Eagles. We also defeated a very good KIPP Academy team in a very close game. Emmanuel, as a fifth grader, stepped up as our goalie, and took pride in stopping the opponents’ shots, as well as encouraging his teammates.

Excell’s soccer team has a bright future, as we had a very young team that now has a season of experience competing against older players. Go Eagles!!!

Older Calendar

The Excell Academy Eagles basketball team has been playing quite a few games lately. Our games have yielded numerous favorable results, although there have been a few tough losses as well . The team, comprised of 12 5th and 6th grade boys and a 5th grade girl, is coached by the school's Physical Education instructor, Mr. Aaron Hjermstad. On game day, Mr. Hjermstad prepares his team for the big game in a typical fashion - defense, hard work and having fun.
