3rd Grade Field Trip
On Friday, May 7, third graders from Excell Academy took a field trip to The Landing in Shakopee, MN. The students had the opportunity to experience what life was like in the Minnesota River Valley during the 19th century through hands-on activities and role-playing. Visiting The Landing, was like stepping back in time. Students were led to six different destinations, and were able to take part in activities that would have been a part of a child’s daily life in the 19th century. The students did chores, played games, went to school, and toured historic homes. The children had an opportunity to interact with tour guides dressed as 19th century pioneers and ask questions while exploring. Following the trip, students reflected in their classrooms and compared life in the 19th century to life now, as well as to different time periods we have studied. Even with some rainy weather, the trip was a great learning experience for our students. The third grade students received a field trip grant from Target Corporation to fund this trip and were able to attend without any costs to themselves or the school. Thank you Target!
