As a means of mentally preparing teachers and staff for the upcoming (2009-2010) school year, the administration at Excell Academy hosted a two-day retreat on July 30th and 31st at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Brooklyn Center, MN. The retreat was attended by sixty new and returning members of the school’s staff.
The presenter and keynote speaker, Mrs. Jessica Lynn Jackson noted that the retreat was duly important and necessary to re-prepare oneself for the 09-10 school year within the Excell Academy school environment where cultural diversity among students and teachers is at a high level, but has been carefully and skillfully managed in the past by school administration and staff. She said the retreat was an awareness exercise and an attempt to stimulate teachers’ minds for greater tasks ahead. As part of the kick-off process, Mrs. Sabrina Williams, founder and executive director was asked to take a turn and deliver her “Excell Academy story” to the attendees. In so doing, Mrs. Williams presented a complete narration of a vision that led to the founding of the Excell Academy organization, and underscored the importance of maintaining a diligent deliverance of the mission that follows.
The retreat was a full two-day town hall type event which involved lecture sessions by Mrs. Jackson, discussion forums, video presentations, lunch, and games during recess. The sessions were video taped, and the tapes will be available for checkout by anyone who did not attend, as well as those who’d like to review the event.
